How do I tell him
he doesn’t love me as a sister?
You don’t tell your sister
you like going to the grocery store with her.
I have a brother
who likes me a lot.
He never looks at me like that,
with lights in his eyes,
corners crinkled in delight.
How do I tell him
you don’t tell your sister
how at home you feel with her,
and close, safe to share feelings,
and brothers don’t hug sisters
those extra seconds
when everyone is saying good-bye,
or kiss them three times on the face,
instead of a peck on the cheek
and a rabbit punch in the arm.
How do I tell him
you don’t tell your sister
how intense her eyes are,
how beautiful she looks—
How do I tell him,
and if I don’t tell him,
how long
will it take him
to know?

Hello BFF,
I simply LOVE your book and what a wonderful excerpt you chose…. I love the title – how many times does this truly happen?
You know your book comes with me with each move that I make across the country – it’s very special to me!
Next move on Saturday – downsizing to 2 bedroom condo and ON the BEACH for the winter months….ADVENTURES….

Dear Nancy – my BFF -
Since I know you own TWO copies of my book, I am even more flattered that you take my work around on all your moves.
Yet, another?
This one on the beach? How wonderful. You really know how to do it by now.
One ADVENTURE after another. I wonder if you know how many of us envy you?
wow that’s really strong b/c every women has gone through something like this in her life and through the relationships she tried to build

Dear Ella -
There was a comment on my book which read -
“I thought you were reading my mail.”
We women are much more alike than we think.
Yes, we probably all have gone through something like this.

A cliche for fear of commitment maybe or just an inability to recognize the phases of love. Or maybe they don’t feel like they deserve the love of a woman or they simply don’t know how to love. Whatever the deeper issue is; once the door to intimacy is closed it is hard to open it again.

Dear Nicole -
Probably all of the above.
Hint: When you have time to read my whole book (????)
you will see you were right all along.
So, where were you when I really needed you?
(Right again. I probably would not have listened. We only learn by going through it)

Hi Corinne,
Love that one in the book. Sometimes I don’t believe they realize just how much they love you, until they think they may lose that love. You mights say a bolt of lighting has to hit them.
thank you for refreshing my memory.
Hugs,
Debbie

Dear Debbie -
Since you have read the book, you have all the answers.
Life has its twists and turns. I think you will agree I did not miss one of them.
Would I do it all over again? (probably)
My sister always says -
“You have done it all. You did not miss a thing.”
so pure and innocent.. beautiful poem, Corinne!

Dear Sapir -
Yeah, I was pretty pure and innocent when I wrote that poem.
Now ….. after some bruises -
not quite as much.
C: It’s those bruises that give you character, and help direct you in the future. I don’t see you as one of those people who sticks their finger in the flame more than once. “oww! fire hurts.” “ow. fire hurts.” I think you get it, you learn and you move forward. Right? Wrong? Maybe? Not?

Yes, Kathy -
I have learned.
The most important lesson is when a man tells you he is “not ready for a relationship” – BELIEVE HIM.
Women tend to think – “oh, I change that.”
RUN.
Dear Corrnie,

those bruises can be a great inspiration to a new poem

Dear Sapir -
My book is unusual in that it tells the story in poems – and letters to all different people.
When you have time, read it.
You’ll find lots of follow up poems you might enjoy.

Dear Ambien Andy -
I have four books published that have my poetry included. A Woman Without A Man too. The others are out of print but can be accessed in used books on Amazon under my name – Corinne Edwards.
They only cost a few dollars.
Thanks for your interest. Let me know if you have any trouble finding them.

Hi! Corinne,
I came straight up from Debbie’s blog.
About your poem, it’s way too cool, teachy and truthful. It happens to both sexes though – when a guy tells a lady he can’t date her because he loves her like a sister and vice-versa. I’ve experienced that twice. Not so cool, I must say.
You are a good poet.
Bless you,
Chukwuka.
