ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR INTUITION?
Free will gives us full control over our choices -
- but every action has a reaction and that reaction is on automatic.
It is important to think carefully about our options. It is unrealistic to make a poor decision and hope for the best.
We all have a small inner signal which guides us toward the right thing. An Internal Teacher. Perhaps, a Guardian Angel. The Voice of Intuition.
IF WE USE IT.
Spiritual teachers says that we can train ourselves to hear the answer to a problem.
Some say we can feel the answer somewhere in our bodies. The first step is to ask for guidance when we are calm. If we are afraid, it distorts the answer.
Then, pick the Higher Power that is most comfortable and ask.
Universal Intelligence is available to all of us.
Everyone’s signal system is different. Mine is in the region of my heart. If I ask a question and the answer is NO, I get a feeling of restriction in that area. Something closing up. If it is YES, the feeling is calm and seems open.
Others can sit quietly and their head actually nods downward for yes, and side to side for the opposite.
Each person must find their own signal.
Start with something small and ask for the answer. Practice with something where the answer is obvious. For example, “Is my name —-? “ Then, watch and feel your body. It could be a signal almost anywhere.
Another way is to get very calm before you ask and write the answer on a piece of paper. Don’t think about it. Just write the first thing that comes into your mind.
Ask minor questions until you feel secure enough to tackle a big problem.
I wouldn’t start with things like, “Shall I sell my house and move to California?” or “Shall I file for divorce?”
Sometimes, our Guidance comes from something we accidentally read, a billboard, a child – an accident – a stranger on a plane.
We also could be the “answer” for someone else.
I was seated next to an elderly man on a plane. A very religious man. He had lost his wife only a few months ago but was contemplating getting married again right away. He told me the Holy Spirit had found him someone.
He had met a “wonderful woman.”
It was a four hour trip so he had plenty of time to tell me about her and his life.
He seemed to be quite well off financially and was helping his daughter after she lost her job. Her house was going into foreclosure.
His ex-daughter in law had been deserted by his son, who was a drug addict. He was paying her rent and expenses so she could support his young granddaughter.
Such a lovely and generous man.
Then, he dropped the bomb.
He said this “wonderful woman” objected to his generosity and they had “things to work out in that department.”
What?
She felt his children were old enough to take care of themselves and he should save his money. (For her?)
I didn’t even know the man’s name. The plane was about to land. But the words just popped out of my mouth.
I said, “I have a message for you from the Holy Spirit. You are not to marry that woman. You deserve a kind person in your late years. She is a mean woman.”
This gentle man looked stunned as we were getting off the plane.
Then, he turned to me and said, “God seated next to me so I could hear that message. I knew it but I wasn’t listening. Thank you.”
Things like that are not always coincidences. The last thing on my mind that day was to be a Messenger.
When doors are shutting in front of us, it could be a signal we are not listening. Perhaps we should look the situation again with new eyes. It could be a bad idea, or an idea whose time has not come.
Maybe it is it’s a matter of waiting for something, or someone to be ready for us.
Or, a path we should not be on at all.
What is your experience with intuition?
Have you listened?
Was it right?

Wonderful post Corinne.
Recently a friend of mine was telling me about a plea she made when her husband lay dying. They had been together for 25 wonderful years and had 3 school age children. She said she asked in prayer to be able to keep him with her. She said she didn’t care if he was in a wheelchair for the rest of his life…she would take care of him. Just let him live.
She said she heard a quiet voice in her head say “No”. She was so shocked she had to repeat it in her own voice “No?” And it said again, “No”. She said a feeling of calm then came over her. It had not been a mean “no”…just a “no” and she knew it was his time and that somehow, she and her children would be alright.
She said that a few days after he had died she was laying in bed unable to sleep and she found herself praying/saying “What am I going to do now? I’ve been a “stay at home” mom, I’ve home schooled the kids but what can I do to support us all?” She didn’t hear a voice this time but felt a communication with these words “I will make a new life for you”.
She is now one of the happiest women I know. She has another wonderful husband now and has a life so different and yet very fulfilling. She heard the inner voice and she trusted it to lead her right and it did.
For myself, it has to be a moment by moment thing. I have never “felt” things, I have never “heard” things and sometimes I feel like I have no intuition at all but then again, I don’t really need it. I am content to have Spirit walking beside me each day and as long as I choose it as my companion, I’m good to go.
Your posts are always such a light along the way Corinne. I think you are an old Soul.

Corinne you are one of the most intuitive people I know..I’m also very intuitive – but I don’t always know what the message is until after the fact. I may be thinking of someone, and then they’ll call.. Does this mean my telepathic self sent them a message and then they called? or does it mean my intuition was clicking in and I picked up that they were calling?
Hi Sharon -
You are probably more intuitive than you think.
It can take many forms.
It could be just picking up and energy field around someone. You just KNOW if that person likes you – or if it is a good person to be around.
You can develop it further – but I think you are doing just fine.
Think you should add a subtitle to your blog –
Hapiness is eating, baking and enjoying movies
Dear Michelle -
Yes, I do think that precognition – knowing when someone is going to call is all part of Intuition.
It is being connected to a vast energy field. And listening.
- and we are connected to everyone. Close people especially. They get our messages.
And everything.
Wow Corinne! This is my first time here….
I not only admire you for using your intuition, I think it is extra-admirable that you actually had the courage to say out loud to this person you didn’t know, something he could have responded very negatively to.
That is the part I’m working on. Getting the courage to give information that may be needed, but may not be received well.
Thanks for inspiring me!

I was once in a Mastermind group with a person that wasn’t a regular part of the group. She was a special visitor that I didn’t know very well. The message that I got for her said, “Accept no imitations.” The message came as a voice in my head, which is how I get most of my intuition messages. I hesitated to tell her since I didn’t know her well. I decided that she could just think I was off the wall if she wanted to. I told her the message and she immediately knew what it meant. I didn’t have a clue but took the chance and told her anyway. Those are the hard ones—where you don’t know the person, like you fellow traveler on the plane.
Sometimes you just have to take the chance of looking foolish or weird to deliver messages from Spirit. I have learned to trust that voice in my head. My sister says the Mental Health people that she deals with would call me crazy and put me on medication to quiet that voice. I know that I am not crazy and that voice is real and so is the information that comes from it. Trusting my intuition just feels right.
I have a best friend that some how knows when to call me. Very frequently I will have just finished a project or just walked in the door when she calls. I do believe that is part of intuition between two friends who are very close.
Recently I was on my way to the bathroom when a voice told me to take the phone in with me. I ignored it. As soon as I sat down, the phone started ringing. I had to call the person back when I got out of the bathroom because I ignored the voice. That is part of intuition too.
This voice is very firm and sometimes very loud. If there is hesitation in the voice, it is coming from ego rather than Spirit. Hesitation comes from Fear. Spirit comes from Love.

Dear Kara -
I know what you mean. But when I just blurted that out to the elderly man, it was as though I had no control over what I was saying.
It just came out.
(Besides, he was so old and frail, there was no way he could have attacked me!)
Also see my answer to Patricia.
Dear Patricia -
A friend of mine insisted that I go to a seance. A real one.
The medium was laid out in the middle of the room. Only candlelight.
Kinda spooky but I figured – why not?
There were about 20 people in the room. They were all waiting for a message from someone who was departed.
Nothing was coming through.
The medium suggested that there were Indian spirit guides in the room and that we should all sing “Ten Little Indians” to encourage them.
I was thinking what am I doing singing in this crazy place!
Then, I heard a very distinct voice in my head. It was not audible.
It said -
“There is no insurance policy.”
I knew that was not a message for me so I said it out loud in the dark..
Afterward, when the lights came on, a man I did not know came up to me and said thanks.
He had come for that information. His sister had insisted their Mom had a policy.
I would never hang out a shingle saying I was a psychic. But I do have these things happen every once in a while. From seemingly nowhere.
I believe we all are capable of picking up information but we resist it.
Or we are afraid of it.
I have never been afraid.
Wow! This is very interesting. I would love to feel that sort of intuition. I think mine is buried somewhere. I’m sure that older gentleman was even more grateful after he had time to think about it.

I have never heard voices or had messages to give others but I have “known” what was physically wrong with people. I have known when they had a tumor or some serious problem. I am trained in medicine, but sometimes I just know when there is no evidence. I have been in medicine long enough that I pre-date CAT scanners and MRI machines. I had a woman come to see me in the rural clinic where I worked providing urgent care services. I was brand new and was to learn about these impressions with her. She told me she had pain in her stomach. Her husband had recently left her and she was very anxious. When I lay my hands on her abdomen I knew she had a tumor, but it was not palpable. I told the local surgeon, a good surgeon but a crusty, cynical guy – what I felt. He really doubted me and gave me a really hard time but she got sicker and he had to operate. Her tumor was the largest of a very rare type of cancer that anyone had seen up to that time but it was entirely in the cavity of the low back (retroperitoneal) and not able to be palpated. Today we would easily have found it with CT. I have had ~250,000 patient visits in my 40 year career and have had many similar incidents – very strong impressions but never for myself – always for others. Some of my patients feel it and interpret it as charisma – actually it isn’t me – I am not charismatic but when this happens, some of them feel it and are attracted to it. I really haven’t shared this before except in very oblique ways with a few close friends. I don’t rely on it or seek it, it just happens and when it does I try to understand what it means for my patient.

Dear Bruce -
You have probably never labeled your ability but you are known formally as a “Medical Intuitive.”
Have you ever read the books by Dr. Judith Orloff or Dr. Mona Lisa Shultz?
I think you would find them interesting and would confirm to you what you already know about yourself.
I saw my doctor last week and he told me he bases his diagnosis of patients a great deal on how they “LOOK.”
Doubt that he would label himself as an intuitive – but it is a similar thing.
PS. He told me that I LOOKED GREAT.
I’ll buy that. Any day.
I definitely feel I have psychic ability but like you it comes in flashes.
But I always pay attention.
Hi Tish -
If it is buried – Dig it out!
Do it slowly as I have advised until you develop some confidence!
I wish I had taken that man’s telephone number or given him mine. I have always wondered what happened to him.
Corinne, I love your site. Some amazing stories of intuition here, in the comments. It’s so interesting reading everyone’s story. I’m intuitive, but like you and many of your readers it’s not an on-demand service that I can call up whenever I want. My mother is very intuitive, and I find with my partner that we frequently are thinking the same thing, or one says something the other is thinking – exactly word-for-word most of the time. It’s great, pretty soon we won’t have to talk at all I reckon
I want to develop my intuition even more, and I’m going to try what you suggested. I think much of the time the reason people hesitate to trust their intuition, or don’t think they are intuitive is that they haven’t learned how to tell what’s intuitive and what’s coming from ego or fear. So your suggestions about how to learn how to tell ‘yes’ from ‘no’ are really valuable. I’m going to take some time to run some experiments to find out just what my indicators are.
I’ve recently read (well listened to the audio book) The Field, by Lynne McTaggart. I highly recommend it to everyone who is interested in intuition. And everyone who doesn’t believe in it too! Scientists, mostly Quantum Physicists have been proving some amazing things. We are all interconnected, with all things and all of us can tap into The Field, and we do. I think it’s just that some of us notice it, while others don’t, or label it ‘coincidence’.

You know I had the good Lord touch my shoulder once when I thought I was going to have a nerves break down, being a single mother. After that happened I knew everything was going to be just fine. I really felt at peace.
As for my intuition, I think I let myself get in the way. With my happy website there are time I wonder if I’ve made a mistake (Again) and then something will happen the next day and I think, know I am doing the right thing. Is that intuition telling I’m doing the right thing?

Regarding this comment -
“Though I never had such experience but I would love to feel that sort of intuition.”
Stop blocking it. We all have it. Start little by little.
Hi Corinne,
That was an excellent article about acting on your intuition. !
I recall reading something Carolyn Myss said about intuition.
To paraphrase her she said…’It’s a skill not a gift’.
I have explained to people it’s like bowling. One does not get up and bowl a 300 game. You need to practice for the skill to develop.
Same way with intuition.
A friend shared to me some simple words of wisdom a few years ago.
Powerful words that I really needed to hear. ‘Deb, you need to have NO DOUBT’. She was speaking of expressing messages to others that I have received in intuition. I was hesitant of sharing those messages thinking I would be judged. Because of my friend’s words, I just boldly go on and share.
I only drop in on your every so often Corinne, but when I do there is always a wonderful message.

Know you are busy, so always grateful when ou drop in for a visit.
I certainly agree with your statement.
“You need to have NO DOUBT’. She was speaking of expressing messages to others that I have received in intuition. I was hesitant of sharing those messages thinking I would be judged. Because of my friend’s words, I just boldly go on and share. ”
So, what can they do to us?
And it could be a life saver.
Dear Donna -
I am certainly going to look into “The Field.”.
Sounds fascinating. And yes, science is starting to tune in with things like remote healing and intuition.
I think I heard Princeton University is doing some amazing studies.
You would enjoy Larry Dossey’s book, “Be Careful What You Pray For” also. Put it on your list. It is right up your alley!
It’s not new. You can probably get it from your local library or buy a used copy.
Dear my lovely Happymaker -
“With my happy website there are time I wonder if I’ve made a mistake (Again) and then something will happen the next day and I think, know I am doing the right thing. Is that intuition telling I’m doing the right thing?”
WILL YOU STOP!
You are doing great.
Corrinne
Thanks you, yes, I promise I will STOP and thank you for the reinforcement.
You know it is really neat that we are never to old to learn.

Thanks Corinne, I’ve put “Be Careful What You Pray For” on my list. I use the library a lot, so I’ll check to see if they have it. I’m pretty sure Princeton University is up to some interesting things, I think Lynne McTaggart mentions it.
But I find it amazing that this research has been going on since the ’80s… and it’s not common knowledge. Lynne McTaggart is certainly helping to change that in a big way now, and Dan Brown as well I suspect, with his latest (and fantastic) book, The Lost Symbol where one of the main characters is a researcher in Noetic Science and mentions Lynne McTaggart. In fact, this is how I got onto the trail of Lynne and found The Field.
There aren’t too many books that I read more than once (aside from reference books), but The Field is definitely one that I will read over and over, I suspect the same will be true of Lynne’s other books too. I’m currently reading (actually listening… to the audio book) her companion book “Living The Field” which focuses more on the practical how to side of it.
