Thanks for the compliment! I should have made clear that my "ostrich" quip was aimed more at Raymond's comment rather than your good self. Avoiding after 6.0 may be a good idea as it also avoids wasting time watching television.

Dear David -

I should follow my own advice. I am a news junkie. Definitely not an ostrich.

What I mentioned in my article is that Andrew Weil suggested not to look at the news after 6 PM. He said it interferes with a peaceful sleep.

After all, there is no good news on TV. Good news is just not news. Too bad.

By the way, congratulations on your 50th birthday! (You don't look it!)

One of my favorite quotes is "I cried because I had no shoes, till I met a man who had no feet". Being aware of tragedy and suffering can galvanize you into making the most of the wonderful life you have been given.
I wrote a post - totally off message for my blog - about the Cyclone Nargis tragedy a few weeks ago. It did suggest ways people can take action, however small. I think taking up the "ostrich position", burying our head in the sands, by avoiding news is daft. We are part of a wider society, a bigger world; I could not imagine being so self absorbed that I didn't want to know what was happening elsewhere.

Corinne,

I write on science on my being the change blog. I'm currently working on a series of articles that will become a white paper on alternative energy. I hope to get my Congressman to read the white paper and possibly act on some of the ideas.

I will also be writing a lot about science in education on my new home school your teenager blog. I just started it and it doesn't have much content yet.

I also plan to start writing more science articles for Associated Content. I'm collecting topics of current interest so the articles I write will more likely be read and syndicate well. The general public needs an appreciation of science I believe the schools have failed to instill in students. I'm trying to write articles without using any science jargon or get too technical with my topics. I believe this is the only way my science writing will make an impact on the general public and anyone in Congress I can get to read them.

I'm happy to answer any science questions anyone has, and I'd be happy to write articles as guest posts for anyone who would like a science or math topic covered.

Thanks,
Sherri
