How very true this is. It is as if the person feels that the only thing adrift is that they are not 'in a relationship', whithout considering that a new relationship is going to be quite different from the first.

It seems a person can drift from one relationship to another but actually just be carrying on the first relationship only with a new person. This, I feel, may account for why people sometimes seem to repeat the same 'mistakes' in relationships. 

Maybe we do need to consider the needs of the other person in our relationship as much or more than our own needs. Consider how we can benefit the other person rather than how they benefit us.
