LONELY – Goodbye Tim – a poem

by Corinne on June 18, 2008

lonely

with only TV

so lonely

we just have to accept life
everyone knows that

lonely

an intelligent person copes
everyone knows that

sitting alone
in a perfect room
the new lamp has arrived
your sister says
it warms that corner

lonely

sitting alone
in a perfect house
the cleaning service
has polished
the already clean

lonely

there’s a movie you want to see
you don’t go

lonely

This poem reminds me of a feeling I had one night two years ago walking across the fields south of the Art Institute to my apartment. The sky was dark and the air was crisp…snow was falling lightly to the ground. My footprints left a trail, kitty corner from Columbus to Michigan. Pausing for a few moments, I looked back, and thought, “I am surrounded by millions of people and I am so alone with only my tracks attesting to my existence and soon, they would disappear.”

Dear Michelle -

Yes, it is sad. I have heard so many people say, “it feels like a loss in my own family.”

What a guy. We have to listen to the words in his son’s speech today which he ended with what his father would have advised -

GO GET’EM!

Dear Ang -

I have always felt when I wrote a poem that it was like painting a picture with words.

You saw my picture with the sharing of your experience.

Except, now when you walk, you leave tracks in the snow.

I am bereft for him already. His infectious smile will forever be imprinted upon my psyche. Thanks for the beautiful poem.

Dear Penelope -

We all are. I try to watch Meet the Press on Sunday and I end up turning it off. It makes me sad.

I guess we will get used to it.
