We were on the way to the studio to interview Dannion Brinkley, the author of several blockbuster, #1 New York Times best selling books, Saved By the Light and At Peace in the Light.
He was the foremost authority on the “Near Death Experience.” An unlikely candidate since he was a hired killer and a mercenary for more than one government agency. Not a person with any spiritual background. Quite the opposite.
As we drove, my floor director, Linda, and I were discussing a university course she was considering. She was undecided if she should take it.
Dannion was late.
As he walked in, he went over to Linda and said, “Take that course.” She was pretty freaked out. She had never seen him before. Neither had I.
That was the beginning of a fascinating interview I did that day and just accidently found posted on the Internet. I don’t know the people who put it on – they never asked me and I own the copyright.
Although this was done over ten years ago, he made predications that were considered outrageous at the time and have come true – especially this week with the uproar in the financial markets and the coming election.
According to his books, he came out of this near death experience with psychic powers he never had before.
This interview, done years ago, will certainly startle you.
It amazed me. And I was the one who did the interview.

It sounds scary and made me think about it, Is it really true or just plain brain imagination? Whatever the truth is, no one can really tell.

I remember seeing Dannion on Wisdom several years ago and I have been on his site recently. Three questons:
1) Who is god?
2) Why can’t “he” be here? I despise that reference of “he” … We really need to get completely over that one. I cannot really listen to anyone who still does that. We all know it’s not a “guy” up there- or do we?
3) and why did we choose (and have been chosen) to come here?
what’s in it for us?
It’s a lovely little fairy tale- but as a business owner, my first question is “what’s the point”?
I hope you put more of your shows on your blog – you have done the most interesting people.

I guess I should have put a “Jim Kramer” type of disclaimer that the views of the authors are not necessarily those of Corinne Edwards.

There was no way that Dannion could have known about our conversation in the car.

I have several thoughts on this. First of all, I certainly think you should have been asked for your permission to put this video up on the internet. I’m curious to know if Dannion had anything to do with it, and whether or not it was him that initiated it.
As I said in my first comment on your post, it was this interview that introduced me to you. It is interesting to me that as fascinating as this interview was, you were the one that held my interest.
Even though I was drawn to Dannions organization “Compassion In Action” and went through the training, there was something about him that felt like the “Imperfect Messenger”…but aren’t we all.
When I saw your post, I went to his website and for some reason it felt very commercial to me. Possibly there is a flaw in me that I longs for the purity of service without payment.
As for my take on death, everything that Dannion said in that interview was what I believed already. I read a book a long time ago called “Letters from a living dead man” and it was written via “automatic writing” and was fascinating stuff. The man who had died was communicating with an acquaintance that didn’t know he had died. He signed the letters “Mr. X” which was a pen name he had used for his writing while he was alive. He said he felt compelled to described “the other side” because he wanted so badly to communicate how wonderful it was and that there was nothing to fear about death.
So anyway Corrine, your’s is the RSS I want coming into my computer, not Dannions or the guy that wrote “Conversations With God”. I prefer someone who “wonders” instead of someone who “knows”. And I too wish you were still doing your interviews but I will take what I can get and just keep reading your blog.

Yes, they should have asked but I would have said yes. I really put that in my article to remind people they should ask. Most everyone says yes unless you are copying their whole article!

No, I don’t think Dannion put it up. I gave him rights to this interview a few years ago – not my copyright – just the right to use it.
His “Compassion In Action” group bought HUNDREDS of copies of this interview to help their organization. So the interview has been out there for a long time.
The other reason I know it was not his organization is that the person who put it on line (from the UK by the way) edited out all reference to Compassion In Action at the end of the interview. They NEVER would have done that!
I like Dannion. He is a rough diamond in a lot of ways. And I think very likely he had little to do with the design of his site. It doesn’t look like his style. But I could be wrong!
BTW – I LOVED your new article. You are a wonderful writer.

Really great interview! I remember that I have read a book a long time ago, the title is “Embraced by the light”.The story is almost the same like Dannion’s.

Sharon Beck – I don’t have a good vibe on Dannion – and I listen to my gut. The guy “conversations with god” scares me – he reminds me of the god of my catholic childhood.
I think there is something wrong with him. He is just like the examples set forth in Peck’s book “People of the Lie”..

Wow…talk about prescient. We are losing or have already lost our 2-party system. The majority of Americans are independent or claim to be even if they are still part of an organized party. Organized religion is slipping away faster than at any time in the common era.
We elected a guy to be president (Barack Hussein Obama) that could hardly be more opposite the Bush/Cheney administration.
We are beginning to form international coalitions to get along together in the world. America has rejoined the UN in a meaningful way. Not that we actually left, but we weren’t participating. President Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Those who oppose the status quo have never been stronger, more passionate or more steadfast. The changes are so drastic and happening so fast that some of those on the far right believe President Obama to be the Anti-Christ. Those of us on the left feel change isn’t happening fast enough.
These are two more books I’m adding to my reading list, which is now 6 hand-written pages long! Between you and Rachel Maddow, Corinne, I’ll still be reading after I’m gone from the Earth. Did Dannion happen to mention if there were any libraries out there, or do you suddenly acquire all the content of everything everyone has ever written? If that’s the case, maybe I’ll spend less time reading??? No, I enjoy it too much to give it up.

No, Dannion did not mention any libraries out there.
But I do believe every word he said. He is rather a rough character and not at all w00-woo.
He went on to start a wonderful organization to work with the dying. And this interview was used with all his volunteers and even sold (with my permission and some compensation) at many venues he attended.
When I was a volunteer at Cook County Jail, I met a man in one of my classes who was a hired mercenary killer. He did not confide in me which countries he worked for and he was not in jail for any of those offenses. Something minor.
He said he was African American but he was very light and could have passed for Italian, Greek, Arabic.
Somehow, his wife found me after he was released. He had been gunned down two days later.
Dangerous work.

This task was asked of me by my 80+year old brother in law after he read, and I might add was thrilled, the author’s book about near death experience.
