CORINNE EDWARDS INTERVIEWS – A “taste” of the greats!

by Corinne

I could have titled this article -

WILL WORK FOR PAY

No, I am not abandoning my precious blog. But I would like to get back to my first love as a talk show host in either television or radio. As an addition to what I am doing here.

So, I thought I would post a official proposal on my site and ask you if you had any ideas or connections I could pursue.

At the end of the proposal, there are a few clips from my former show. As you may know, if you have read my about page, that the show was canceled because of the death of the owner of Wisdom Television . The network was put up for sale and the new owners did not pick up any of the production of the programming that had been running for several years.

CORINNE EDWARDS INTERVIEWS

THE CONCEPT

This is a unique talk show featuring authors from the fastest growing segment of the publishing industry – Personal Growth. The category includes books on relationships, popular health, business, spirituality and motivation. Each interview focuses on the key message and essence of the book. It is a compelling learning experience targeted toward a mainstream audience.

Edwards standard instruction to each author was, “We are not preaching to the choir here. There’s a guy out there sitting on a couch in his undershirt. He has problems. If we don’t reach him, we have failed.”

THE FORMAT

The show opens with a teaser sound byte from the interview. The set gives the impression of a comfortable library with easy chairs and a fireplace. The informal half hour interview is reminiscent of the popular Charlie Rose series in that the author is a respected, successful authority in his field. The interviewer acts as a guide to brings this information forward but rarely includes a personal opinion on the content. The author is the star of the show.

THE AUDIENCE

The personal growth sector of the publishing industry is booming - with billions in domestic book sales in the last few years. These highly educated consumers are between the ages of 38 and 55. Sixty percent are women. According to a study which became the focus of the book, The Cultural Creatives, (Harmony Publishers – 2000) there are 50 million of them out there - 26% of all adult Americans. They have attained the house, portfolio, Mercedes and the 2.5 kids. They are asking the question, “Is that all there is?”

THE HOST

Corinne Edwards has been the host of a weekly cable TV program in Chicago for ten years. Her program was a featured strip series on Wisdom Television for six years. Edwards has produced and hosted more than 400 shows and is known as a seasoned professional in the personal growth field. Her relationships with publishers, publicists and authors around the country are solid and cordial.

Among the personalities she has interviewed are Deepak Chopra, James Redfield, Joan Borysenko, Robert Bly, Mark Victor Hansen, Marianne Williamson, John Gray, Jean Houston, Les Brown, Wayne Dyer, Andrew Weil, Judith Viorst, Carolyn Myss, Neale Donald Walsch, Judith Orloff and Thomas Moore.

As always, thanks for the mention Corinne. This is terrific work you’ve done. I’m always inspired by others who’ve reinvented themselves and are game to do it again and again as the tides change. Stumbled you… Everyone needs to know you are available!

Dear Michelle -

Without your brains and expertise in taking clips from an old website and making them useable, this would not be here.

I am so appreciative of your friendship and help!

Dear Arlene -

Thanks for the good wishes and loyal readership – and especially for the stability part.

We can also use some of that!

The clips of the past interviews with your guests
were thought-provoking and quite interesting from
my point of view. What I liked most was that you asked a question and you allowed your guest to fully reply without interuption. This is NOT true of many interviewers on national
television.I do not want to mention names.
You SHOULD get back to this part of you career in which
you excel.

Thanks, Frank -

You hit on one of my pet peeves when I am watching an interview – interrupting!

The other one is the interviewer talking about themselves. Nobody cares. The subject is the star of the show.

Would love to get back to interviewing. Wish me luck!

And thanks for following my articles.

Dear Corinne:
Always been your fan. I loved the Wisdom Channel. Why dont you and your friends (you have a lot) start a new channel??? Humanity is starving for good television, like the one you and Jeffrey Mishlove, and so many others did, it seems eons ago. Good luck. Think big… You are the best.
Hope to see you soon on TV… Rosalinda

Dear Rosalinda -

I loved the Wisdom Channel too. It was the owner, Bill Turner’s dream, to change the world through television.

Unfortunately, he died too soon. Although the programming he initiated is still being shown in Canada,I hear. His heirs sold the channel and the new owners sold the programming.

So his legacy goes on – as does all of us who participated in the project.

It is just not available in the US.

It takes millions of dollars to start a new channel. I keep waiting for the call that someone is doing it.

Keep all those good thoughts alive in the Universe!

And thanks for coming by and visiting. Come back soon!

One of my best addictions (who says addictions have to be bad?) was the Wonderful Wisdom channel. I learned so much and taped your show, Georgia’s and Jeffrey’s everyday and played it back at night. Just this little dose of some of your guests is a great pick-me-up and I have played this several times. I saw Bill Turner interviewed also and what a guy. He was the president of MY Wisdom University. That’s pretty much what I watched – besides the Weather Channel – my other TV addiction. Grateful for what we had and mystified as to why we don’t have a similar channel. Thank you again.

I just wanted to say thank you. Because of your show, I purchased Dr. Judith Orloff’s book Positive Energy and just recently finished it. I found it very inspiring. I would not have known about her or her books if not for you. :)

Dear Susan -

Thanks fo letting us know that. Dr. Orloff is the real deal. I loved interviewing her. She has done a great deal in integrating medicine with intuition.

Please come back to visit!

Love the clips Corinne. Dr. Chopra’s point about us being the only species that asks questions of our existence was wonderful.

The second one (Wayne Dyer I’m guessing?) was really interesting – I don’t know if I agree with the sentiment of not telling people. I think there is some degree of truth to not putting yourself on the defensive, but at the same time I also believe by telling people your goals, it holds you accountable.

Corinne, so glad you’r still doing great work to help the lives of so many! I also used to love seeing your shows on Wisdom! I miss the channel/programming SO much. Hope you and the others could somehow replicate it some time in the future. Just recently I touched base with Chantal Westerman to tell her the same thing. Please let me know about your programs or any new initiatives to sprad spirituality to the world! I am supporting you all the way!
