BARGAIN – A poem about support

by Corinne on April 17, 2008

If you had tried

to drag me down

in your whirlpool,

a hammerlock

around my neck,

to drown with you,

I would stand back.

But all you asked

is hold my hand -

so I run to sit beside you,

waving wildly

all the way

to keep the vultures flying.

I’ll scare your ghosts,

mourn with you,

be your friend.

I’ll keep your body

warm with mine.

I’ll cry with you

until the end.
