So it was 100 degrees and even though the 711/gas station is only a few blocks away, I decided to drive. It was too hot to walk.

Emergency. I was out of staples. Haagen Das coffee ice cream and cigarettes.

Came out of the store. Started my car. Nothing. Click. Click. Click. Click.

Not a good neighborhood to abandon my car and no cell phone. Figured I would be gone ten minutes. No AAA card with me either.

“It’s your battery” this nice looking guy said as he was filling up his gas tank.

“If you have $20.00, I’ll get it started for you.”

Sounded like a good price to me. Especially after he told me he was an auto mechanic.

He got his little bag of tricks out of his trunk. Cleaned off some awful looking stuff on my battery and then put a little screw in something.

The car started. He told me not to stop until I got home. He was right. The next day I had to have it towed.

You know, every once in a while I lose confidence that we are being taken care of.

But, what are the odds of your car breaking down and running into an auto mechanic in a bad neighborhood when it is 100 degrees?

There are angels everywhere.

Gotta have faith.
