I cannot make up
all the love you have missed.
I am only one person.
I cannot be your mother, father,
the friends who abandoned you,
teachers who programmed their beliefs,
dogmas which stunted your growth.
I cannot go back to beginnings,
pick you up when you scraped your knee,
rock you to sleep when your dog died,
comfort a teenager’s sadness.
I’ve just arrived.
I’ve entered the scene too late
to offer advice
on past tense decisions,
cradle you when you lost hope,
be your champion,
support you unconditionally
no matter what you became.
I can only be here today,
another war victim, a wounded child,
carrying the load of my defeats,
limping alongside,
too proud to ask for assistance,
needing you to be here for me.
I cannot make up
all the love you have missed.
I am only one person.
There is no going back.
But if you will reach out your hand,
I can love you now.

Dear Tricia -
I didn’t know you had read my book. Thanks!
The book is pretty – let it all hang out. I figured if I am writing, I might as well let people in to my life.
I was surprised that so many people – and not just women – said that it reflected their thoughts.
One comment from a reader that I love -
“I thought you had been reading my mail.”

Thanks, Nancy.
This poem is one of several that are included in my new book.
I know it is not new to you since you have two copies.
I appreciate the support.
I was touched by the poignancy in this. It show courage and optimism. These are qualities we all can use.

Dear Bruce -
So happy you are enjoying it with your friend. It is more a relationship book than just a woman’s book.
I now am completely confused. After it has been on Kindle for four months, they have contacted me to say it is unreadable. They are telling me they want it on HTML format.
The pdf was fine for a while.
(??????????????)
Until I straighten that out, I hope people will buy the paperback on line where it is still available.
That copy is perfect.
