Dear Gail,
Thanks for the brochure on the seminar “Solving Past Lives in Your Present.” I’ve been going to a lot of self-improvement workshops, but I don’t think I am interested in attending one on this subject.
My present is so complicated and cluttered with stuff going on now. I couldn’t possibly drag anything from another life into it.
Hope you have a good time. Take notes.
Love,
Corinne
CONSCIOUSNESS WOO-WOO CIRCUIT
My cousin Gail has a heavy schedule.
Monday she goes for rebirthing,
Tuesday to her Chinese wholistic doctor
(I gave her my corn pot to boil the herbs),
Wednesday for Bodywork,
Thursday to Overeaters Anonymous,
Friday for A Course in Miracles.
Saturday, she’s busiest of all—
smudging at the EarthWisdom meeting
followed by her tai chi lesson,
ending with a hypnotherapy session.
In between,
she practices out-of-body experiences,
does crystal meditations
(her crystal is charged with finding a lover
and curing her candida),
studies neurolinguistics,
channels her spirit guide,
and is focused on unconditional love.
She has quit her job
because it interferes with her abundance.Every Sunday morning
she calls to tell me how miserable she is.
Her friends all live in the present
and she can’t get a straight answer from anyone.
Don’t suggest:
Past life regression, graphology, palmistry, transcendental
meditation, tarot, numerology, firewalking, Arnold
Patent,Wicca, I Ching, Reiki, sweat lodges, bioenergetics,
aromatic therapy—
that phone psychic in Texas
who has access to the Akashic records—
The Forum, or, God forbid, astrology.
(She has a Saturn return and won’t discuss it!)
She’s done all that.
I guess it’s better
than just hanging around
waiting for things to improve . . .This is an excerpt from my new book -

Corinne I love your experts from the book. As you know I’ve read the book twice, and now I get to read these bits again on your blog!.. The woo-woo is perfect.. Anything is better than waiting around for things to improve, but.. is that why we are all so busy? We can’t stand to look at what is? If we weren’t so busy doing all the time would we see the present? .. I got a bit off track there. … Great chapter. keep em coming!

Dear Michelle -
Those were the days! I have to admit I tried on a lot of Gail’s favorites – (not the smudging – I had white carpet)
Gail is now a well known astrologer and counselor – If you live in the Chicago area and are interested, get in touch with me and I’ll put you together.
Really touching and quite thought-provoking. Another stellar post!
Keep it coming, indeed!

Dear Dawn -
I will keep ‘em coming. Thanks for reminding me.
Actually, I can’t help it. When you are a writer, you have to write.
You know that from your own experience.
Hi Corinne:
Love the poem! I know Gail. She is a fascinating and very funny person.
Also, smart.
Yes, that was a very interesting time for me. I read many self help books but have decided after all this time, I’m just me and have to be happy and love who I am.

This is so hilarious!!! It amazes me that your cousin never considers changing what she’s doing to be happier. She doesn’t seem to have tried simplicity yet. (I’m assuming she doesn’t live in a mud shack with a wind turbine for power, water and septic system, and only her garden for food).
I’d be miserable, too, if my life was scheduled with so much stuff. How does one get along without working? It would stress me out to have no income and all the bills to pay.
I love hanging out in my recliner enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to something or watching a show or reading a good book. I don’t get to do it much, so when I have the chance I relish it.
It’s really hard to save people from themselves…they only change when they are ready to do so.

Hi Sherri -
That poem was written when woo-woo was still the rage in the big cities. Everyone I knew was into some aspect of it.
It is no longer. You would be hard pressed to get one of the woo-woo people to show up at a conference and draw a crowd.
But it is still going on. Many places are 20 years behind the urban centers.
Gail has transited way beyond that period now. She lives a simple life and is dedicated to helping people with their spiritual growth.
I have left it all behind for the most part. Just took the pieces that resonated with me and the rest is in my past.
But don’t think that the slight exaggerations ( not much) are not still alive and well with many people.
I like what you guys are up too. Such clever work and reporting! Keep up the superb works guys I’ve incorporated you guys to my blogroll. I think it’ll improve the value of my website
